The Project

The centre’s travelator is being replaced with a new, modern, compliant, and energy-efficient model. This upgrade will improve operational reliability, reduce the likelihood of downtime and disruption if issues occur, and enhance the overall customer experience — helping keep traffic flowing smoothly into the Centre.

This investment future-proofs a critical piece of Centre infrastructure, minimising disruption for customers and retailers over the long term.

The project will run from Thursday 20 August to November 2026.

Are there any rewards for shopping at the Centre during this time?
Yes! There will be plenty of opportunities to be rewarded for shopping at Figtree Grove during the project. From Monday, 7 September, customers can take part in our Shop for Your School campaign by uploading their receipts to earn points for their local school, receive entries into weekly prize draws, and go in the running to win a $5,000 getaway at the end of October. We’ll also be giving away prizes daily and surprising shoppers with voucher handouts throughout the works, so be sure to keep an eye out for exciting rewards and promotions.
How do I get between levels while the travelator is closed?

There are several easy alternatives:

    1. External Stairs remain open and accessible for those who wish to use them. Directional signage will be placed on the upper level to guide shoppers to the stairs.
    2. A complimentary shuttle bus runs daily during the Centre’s core trading hours, taking shoppers (and their groceries) between the ground floor and the top level. The pickup and drop off locations of the courtesy bus are at the top of the travelator, and outside Ariel’s Cafe. Keep an eye out for directional signage around the Centre.
How long will these works take?

The works are expected to run from 20 August to November 2026. We’ll keep this page and in-centre signage updated if anything changes.

Is parking still available?

Yes. Upper-level parking remains open and available throughout the works. Staff are being encouraged to park on the rooftop level to free up premium parking closer to the entrances for customers.

Is the Centre still open during the works?
Yes, absolutely! Figtree Grove will remain fully open and trading as normal throughout the project. All stores and services will continue operating as usual, with the travelator being the only area temporarily out of use while the works are underway. We look forward to continuing to welcome you to the Centre during this time.
Tell me more about the shuttle bus.

A 13-seater courtesy bus operates seven days a week during core trading hours, running between the lower and upper levels. Customer service staff are on hand at pick-up and drop-off points to help you and your shopping on and off the bus.

What work is happening?

Figtree Grove’s existing travelator is being replaced. It has been in service for around 36 years and is reaching the end of its operational life, so we’re installing a new, modern, energy-efficient travelator to make getting between levels smoother and more reliable.

Why is it being replaced now?

The current travelator has become increasingly unreliable, with more frequent breakdowns and rising maintenance costs — and some replacement parts are no longer available. This upgrade is a long-term investment in the Centre’s infrastructure and in your shopping experience.

Will there be staff on hand to help?

Yes. Customer service staff are stationed at key locations around the Centre for the duration of the works to assist with directions, wayfinding, and any questions you may have.
