Faces of Figtree: Mick from Bakers Delight

We’ve reached week three of the Faces of Figtree series, where we meet someone new each week from one of your favourite Figtree Grove retailers.

This week we caught up with Mick Fuller, the owner of Bakers Delight and his team.

Tell us about your journey as a part of Bakers Delight.

I have been with Bakers Delight for 21 years, with a store here at Figtree Grove for 15 of those years.  In our Figtree store alone, we employ 35 locals across baking and sales.

What products or services do you offer?

We start with an empty bakery each and every day and bake everything from scratch.  We bake and sell a huge variety of bread based products like traditional, wholemeal and grain loaves, sweet loaves, continental breads and savoury treats.  We are also very popular with mums & dads as we bake plenty of lunch box fillers.

What’s a customer favourite?

We actually have a top 20 product list and try to keep these products stocked at all times, so there really are too many favourites to list them all.  But our Custard & Almond Teatime is always popular, it’s so easy serve up with a coffee when friends pop by.

What do you do/sell that customers may not know about?

Some customers may not know about our health range which continues to grow all the time.  The range includes high fibre/low GI breads, low FODMAP breads and specialty grains like chia seeds.  As with the rest of our products, the health range is baked fresh in store 7 days a week.

What has been a highlight for your store at Figtree Grove?

The loyal Figtree customers are definitely the highlight for me and the team.  We are committed to providing the highest quality and freshest products to our customers and adding to the wonderful fresh food destinations that Figtree Grove has become.

Tell us about your team.

I have learnt in my 20+ years in business that “you deserve the staff you have.”  We all work incredibly hard together to achieve a high standard of product and service in the bakery.  The team are the greatest strength in our store.

What’s the key to success in retail?

  1. Retail is ever changing, and you must adapt to that change.
  2. Have the best team that you can.
  3. Treat every customer and team member with the respect they deserve
  4. Be involved in your business.

When you’re not in the store, where might be find you, or what might you be doing in your down time?

You’ll either find me relaxing at home with family or out on the golf course.
