Meet Nicole (pictured below on the left with team member Sharon), the manager at Hobbysew Figtree! Located on the rooftop and also accessible via the stairs next to Australia Post, Hobbysew is a treasure trove of crafting, sewing and hobby supplies. You can easily spend an hour browsing and getting lost in the aisles of crafting goodies and endless rows of fabric prints.
Tell us about your journey as a part of Hobbysew.
I started with Hobbysew 15 years ago as a sales assistant with a passion for sewing and all things craft. Over the past year I have been the manager and still loving being part of the textile and craft industry.
What products or services do you offer?
We sell sewing machines, fabric, haberdashery, Diamond Dotz, hand embroidery and craft supplies. We also offer quilting and machine embroidery services. Usually we’d host a range of classes and workshops weekly as well, but these have been placed on hold at the moment.
What’s a customer favourite?
We all love to add to our fabric stashes, but when someone buys a new sewing machine it’s lovely to see them so excited to get sewing!
What do you do/sell that customers may not know about?
Some shoppers may not know that we can embroider names onto towels for you. We also stock a wide range of Diamond Dotz designs and accessories, which has become an extremely popular hobby for many through these times of social distancing.
What has been a highlight for your store at Figtree Grove?
A regular highlight for our team is when someone comes in store that is learning a new skill in craft and we’re able to help them along the way through that journey.
Tell us about your team.
We are family, with each person having their specialty skills and knowledge and we all love what we do.
What’s the key to success in retail?
It’s as simple as keeping our customers happy and excited about craft and sewing!
When you’re not in the store, where might be find you, or what might you be doing in your down time?
You’ll find me creating with my 3-year-old son. The apple hasn’t fallen far from the tree and he has a love of all things craft as well. On top of that, I’ll also be entertaining a baby.
